Seasonal Anxiety Disorder or Anxiety in general, does it sounds familiar? In today’s world almost half or more population suffers from it in some capacity and sometimes silently.

I want to share my experience with anxiety which comes up occasionally and how I learnt to embrace it and tackle it head-on without relying on medication. Don’t get me wrong, the blog is by no means to discourage medication or medical advise as everyone is different. The blog is based on purely personal experience that I want to share incase anyone can benefit out of it.

The first time I had anxiety and panic attack was back in 2019 and it was a completely alien experience for me. I was scared with the symptoms of heart palpitations, blood pressuring rising. But after learning more about anxiety (thanks to my amazing Doctor) and self-digging I learnt to embrace it.

I am big believer of spiritual practices and natural remedies and below list have helped me a lot:

Pranayama techniques: “Pranayama is control of Breath”. “Prana” is Breath or vital energy in the body. On subtle levels prana represents the pranic energy responsible for life or life force, and “ayama” means control.

Anulom vilom: is a type of alternate nostril breathing used in the practice of yoga. It is known for a promoting physical and mental health such as patience, focus, and control; relieving stress and anxiety; improvements to brain; respiratory, and cardiovascular health; better overall sense of well-being.

Bhastrika: is a unique yet powerful breathing technique that fuses tremendous energy in your being so that you feel charged up. It is a kind of cleansing practice that clears the passageways of your body and makes you feel energetic and strong.

Kapalbhati: is a Sanskrit word that means forehead shining breathing technique. It is named so as the regular practice of the method gives you a shining forehead and bright intellect. Though the method appears to need minimal effort, in reality, it is a very technical kriya and comes with a plethora of benefits.

Natural remedies: In addition to pranayama breathing techniques, my daily routine includes using few herbs such as Ashwagandha, Ginger and Turmeric that have proven health benefit to reduce anxiety and stress. And drinking sufficient water and keeping my body hydrated throughout the day. Few other techniques that I use are journaling, physical activity and practicing gratitude.

Nothing diminishes anxiety faster than action. — Walter Anderson

Anxiety is our body’s natural response to stress. It’s a feeling of fear or apprehension about what’s to come. Once I started taking control of my own life and decided to embrace life, the fear vanished and so did anxiety. And whenever it repeats I now have the tools and resources to face it head-on.
